INSTITUTO PANTANAL SUL
Institute founded in 2003 with the objective of socio-environmental development of Brazilian biomes and their peoples
About IPS
The Instituto de Desenvolvimento Socioambiental Pantanal Sul (IPS) was founded in 2003 with a focus on social and environmental issues in our society. It works on cross-cutting, democratic and sustainable public policies.
The Institute works to conduct research and development on Brazilian biomes in conjunction with traditional communities, promoting partnerships with educational and research institutions and companies that contribute to the global recognition of native fruits and plants - which contain high medicinal and nutritional properties - collected by these communities. Thus, valuing local culture, fauna and flora.

GOALS
The goal of the IPS is always local development with a focus on sustainability based on citizenship. It works on public policies for territorial development through participatory social management methodologies, organization and guidance of social movements within current paradigms, supra-partisan, professionals and citizens towards the capacity and development of commercialization in networks, food security through the implementation of agroecological production systems and extractive activities, also dialoguing with the issue of solid waste, the principles of solidarity economy, cooperativism and associativism, seeking to promote local agro-industries so that traditional communities can carry out their original activities.
OUR ACTIONS
• Community Development
• Environmental Education
• Seed Exchanges
The Instituto Pantanal Sul aims to stimulate the diversification of economic activities in extractive communities, encouraging the development of products with added value from natural resources, such as agroforestry products, fruits extracted from native forests, sustainable crafts, ecological tourism, among others.
The Institute worked on the implementation and monitoring of charitable institutions, schools and organized low-income groups, cultivating more than 50 urban gardens with an average size of 3,000 m², within the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, Campo Grande, in 2005.
Technical training is currently provided, offering courses, lectures and workshops for traditional communities and the general population.
The Institute aims to strengthen the seed exchange network, promoting the development of production, marketing and consumption networks for native fruits and seeds, fostering food security through the implementation of agroecological production systems, agroforestry systems and extractive activities with sustainable agriculture.
• Agroforestry
The IPS uses agroforestry as a cultivation system that integrates agriculture with forests to build socio-biodiverse ecosystems. Combining theoretical knowledge with traditional practices, this cultivation system forms a permacultural unit, bringing benefits to soil and water conservation, sustainable production and climate change mitigation.
• Permaculture
• Solidarity Economy
The Instituto Pantanal Sul uses Permaculture as a tool to help execute projects to train people with the aim of transferring knowledge for greater interaction between humans and the kingdoms, aiming to result in a system of sustainable design and practices.
Within the new generation of Public Policies, the IPS promotes the development of production, marketing and consumption networks, fostering food security through the implementation of systems and principles of the solidarity economy, solidarity cooperativism and associativism.
The IPS contributes to the cooperative relationship between producers (usually indigenous extractive communities) and export companies.
